About

Hi!  I'm Terra.  I love to cook and bake and experiment with recipes and different foods (does that make me a foodie?).  I also love to garden, craft, read and have a passion for the home. I am married to my wonderful husband and we have two children.

The Personal History: I was born and raised in Minnesota by my parents and with my three siblings.  I was homeschooled for most of my youth, and went on to graduate from the University of North Dakota with my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 2012.  I now work part time as a nurse.  We've been married going on 12 years now.  Eight years ago we moved to our country home.

The Cooking History: As I grew up, I have had several influential people who taught me how to cook.  First, my Mom, who taught me about cooking and baking.  My grandma taught me about canning.  One of my aunts taught me how to bake my first loaf of bread from scratch when I was eight.  My other grandma taught me about making elegant meals.  These great ladies started me on my food journey, and now, here I am: loving to experiment and create my own recipes, learning how to create healthy, yummy recipes, always being willing to try something new, learning how to combine what I have on hand to create delicious meals, and learning as much about food as I can.

The Gardening History: My dad built me my first tiny little garden when I was about 10, and I still remember the little rows of tomatoes, lettuce, peas and beans.  I think we tried to grow corn, as well - though I don't remember getting a harvest that first year!  From then on, each year found me tinkering with some sort of garden - be it vegetables, flowers, herbs, heirloom gardening, house plants, tropical plants or bonsai.  When I turned 15, I started working at a greenhouse.  I learned so much there, and worked there for six years.  Now, my husband has to hold me back from making too many gardens and flower beds and planting too many fruit trees and I do appreciate his helping me not go beyond my ability to properly care for everything!

The Crafts History: Ever since I can remember, my sister and I have dabbled in all sorts of crafts.  I remember doing yarn crafts when we were six or seven, we also made those little woven pot holders, wove little doll scarves with a straw "loom," crocheted everything we could think of and practiced our embroidery.   As we grew older, we started doing more 'sophisticated' crafts, such as sewing, cross-stitching, rubber stamping and knitting.  Since being a teenager, I also have enjoyed dabbling in quilling, rug making, quilting, paper making, tatting and lace making.

The Homemaking: Even though I work part time, it is important to me to be a good homemaker and try to create a lovely home.  To me, a lovely home includes having an organized and clean house, making tasty meals, making sure lunches are packed for us, having gardens and decorating the house tastefully.  Now, please don't get the impression I do all these things perfectly - nope, doesn't happen!  Especially with two little ones running around now.  :)

The Blog Content: On my website, I will be sharing current recipes I am making, foods I experiment with, our brewing and vinting experiences, about fermented foods (a passion of mine), my flower and vegetable garden experiences and other plant experiences, and homemaking tips and experiences.

Thank you so much for stopping by!  I welcome your comments, ideas and questions.  Have a lovely day!

~Terra
