A Friend....

We have had this friend stop by several times this winter, scrounging for crab apples off of our ornamental tree.

He is a pileated woodpecker, and they are really quite large - according to Wikepedia, the adults are between 16 to 19 inches long and have a wingspan of 26 to 30 inches. 

They really aren't uncommon up here, but are such a beautiful splash of color on a cold winter's day I wanted to share these pictures with you!
